HABITUAL ABORTION
Abstract
The usual criterion for the diagnosis of habitual abortion is three or more pregnancies with consecutive losses generally in the third or fourth month. The clinical symptomatology is not due to a single disease entity, but is characterized by many different etiological factors. The two major etiologic factors responsible for habitual abortion are anatomical defects involving the cervix and uterine cavity and endocrine defects involving inadequate progesterone production by the corpusluteum. Genetic factors, male factors, and immunological factors, although occasionally involved, are much less frequent. For the most successful treatment of the conditions, it is important to make a proper etiological differential diagnosis.
